A Wonderful Year

It is hard to believe that we are already heading into the Christmas holiday season. I know I have been very neglectful with my updates. Here, at Grand Volute, we have had such a marvelous wedding season. This year found us hosting 50 weddings at our facility and numerous corporate events. We have solved family issues, repaired wedding cakes, dried tears, glued flowers into bouquets and gained several good friends. I was able to work with so many outstanding vendors and really appreciated the opportunity to work with all of you. You can see some of the outstanding photography taken throughout the year by checking out the photo gallery on our website. One vendor in particular, Decor Elegance, deserves a heartfelt thank you for always making us look our very best. Lisa is always willing to go the extra mile, even hanging Chinese lanterns from our 15 foot ceiling. I am glad to be heading into a quieter time of the year and have many exciting things to share with you concerning our new barefoot division, Cater Cat.

Do you have visions of sugar plums dancing in your head?

If so you're not alone. Like so many other wedding trends candy buffets are becoming more and more popular. The real challenge to producing a successful candy buffet is creating that "wow" factor for you and your guests. It is an investment just like your wedding cake and can be the most anticipated part of your wedding reception. when planned and well executed. So many brides make the mistake of ordering their candy using some strange math equation. Though 5 ounces of candy per guest may satisfy your sweet tooth it won't be very visually satisfying for you or your guests. My suggestion, stick with 5 different candies keeping them all within a chosen color palate or theme. Order 18 to 20 pounds. Yes, I did say 18 to 20 pounds of candy. Whether you think you need that much or not your biggest disappointment will be when your candy buffet was not substantial enough to create the presence you were expecting or did not withstand the first wave of guests. We at Grand Volute are here to help you create a one of a kind and memorable candy experience for both you and your guests. We supply you with everything from coordinating linens, containers, appropriate scoops, to the candies of your choice. Whether planning a seashore themed wedding with gummi fish, saltwater taffy, and chocolate seashells or staying with the old and familiar, we can find a candy that represents your style.

Signature Event

It is time for me to kick off my heels and show you a few of the events I have had the privilege of working on. To start, May 16th was one of my favorite events here at Grand Volute because it was a signature event in many different ways. Jennifer and Jason were married at the base of the grand stair case. From her beautiful gown all the way to the pink and brown color pallet she chose, Jennifer was a perfect example of a classical bride. Everything was well planned and it was a pleasure to give them the wedding of their dreams. Please check out her bouquet and centerpieces, which were done by Reuben Puente, the designer for Modern Day Floral. Also, the orchids, looking beautiful as they began to bloom, were used as centerpieces that were flown in from Thailand and individually wired onto 6 foot curly willow sticks. Modern Day Floral is my pick for the vendor of the month. If you have not heard of them they are high heels all the way. I will place the link to their website on this blog. What you are currently seeing is just a small portion of the entire wedding, more of the details will be posted on the website shortly.

High Heel Weekend

It is time to kick off my high heels and tell you all a little bit about what I have been doing since my last posting. I hope you notice that my photography is getting better. I did tell Jen Kroll not to worry about losing any business to me.

Kent and I were privileged to be invited to a wonderful opening in downtown Grand Rapids. A collaboration of professionals have joined together to form an event design boutique called A Modern Event. It was an amazing evening and we were lucky to share in this time with them. We are excited to have these seasoned professionals in Grand Rapids and wish them all the best for their future.

We also had the opportunity in welcoming the seniors and juniors of Greenville high school. Four hundred of them joined us for their prom. The entire building was decorated and the dance floor was covered with balloons. At one time we had about 250 of them on the dance floor. Thank you again Greenville and we hope to see you next year!

It wouldn't be a perfect high heel weekend without a wedding. Robert and Monica allowed me to
be a part of their wedding on Saturday the 25th of April. They met while working together and according to Monica it was love at first sight. Monica's father was also the officiant, and it was a very tearful moment when even Monica's mother stepped up to say a few words about her daughter. It's wonderful to see two people in love and ready to commit to one another. According to Monica, Rob has no annoying traits and after this weekend I think I have to agree. Even with sore feet and tired legs, it was a wonderful weekend at Grand Volute. I hope to meet all of you there someday.

Nick & Elizabeth

Time seems to fly by when you're having fun. Time for me to update you on what is happening with me. Simply put "weddings, weddings, weddings". It's great to be me.
I'd like to share a few photos with you that I shot of a wonderful event that the bride
and I through together in 30 days. Yes, you read it right. So, if I can do it you can do it too. What do you need? A go wedding planner. I won't mention any names. Let's open my little black book and take a look at an awesome couple.

Nick and Elizabeth met while Elizabeth was working at Uccellos. Nick was a friend
of a friend and needless to say Elizabeth was not impressed in fact she hid every time
he came in the door. I have to say Nick persevered and after 6 months won the heart of the lovely Elizabeth. One of Elizabeth's favorite things is how they complement each other in everything we do. Least favorite thing, he always waits until the last moment
for everything. I hate to tell you, but, he's a man! The couple will be living in North Carolina where Nick
is in the Army. I want to thank you both for giving me the opportunity to spend your day with you
and be a part of your family.

First Class Event

Hello Everyone!
It is time for me to open my journal and let all of you know what a great time we had this weekend. This was a first class event with great details including a 5 foot cake produced by
Mira Bella Confections. They are also my pick for vendor of the month. This was unbelievable and I know you will not be able to see all the details in this picture. Ken and his staff really worked their magic.
Ryan and Aubree, our guests of honor, first met while Aubree was finishing her internship at a local health facility.
It wasn't long until sparks flew and here we are today.
Aubree's favorite thing about Ryan " He's always concerned about me". Aubree's least favorite thing about Ryan " His singing."
Before Aubree's father escorted her down the Grand Staircase we were able to share a few final thoughts about her big day. " I am ridiculously happy and can't wait to marry Ryan."
We want to wish Ryan and Aubree all the best and thank them for allowing us to be part of their special day.
